Motorcycle rider went to hospital with serious injuries following crash, officer uninjured

Ontario's police watchdog is reviewing a collision involving a police vehicle and motorcycle that left one person injured in Welland.

The collision occurred Friday, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said in a news release the following day.

Around 9:40 p.m., an officer with the OPP's Niagara detachment crashed into a motorcycle on Highway 58A and Reaker Road, OPP said.

The motorcycle rider went to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, police said. The officer wasn't hurt.

The Special Investigations Unit scrutinizes police interactions that involve a death, serious injury or sexual assault.

A motorcyclist is in hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries after a collision with a police cruiser on Highway 58A in Welland.

The Ontario Provincial Police say the motorcyclist experienced serious but non-life-threatening injuries and the officer was not injured.

OPP say the accident happened at around 9:40 p.m. on Friday night near Reaker Road on the highway.

Officers say an officer was driving a police cruiser when a collision occurred between the cruiser and a motorcycle.

The Special Investigations Unit has invoked their mandate and have taken charge of the investigation which is ongoing.

The highway is closed in both directions between Netherby and Rusholme roads and Reaker Road is closed from Netherby Road to Highway 58A.
