Wellington OPP sergeant charged with sexual assault, breach of trust

WELLINGTON COUNTY – A 21-year veteran of the Wellington County OPP has been charged with sexual assault and breach of trust.

On April 24, West Region officials announced that following a three-month investigation, the Professional Standards Bureau of the OPP has laid 10 charges against the officer.

Sergeant Mike Dolderman is charged with five counts of sexual assault and five counts of breach of trust.

He has been suspended from duty and is to appear in Guelph court on July 28.

Brenda Dolderman, 53, was charged with three counts of obstructing justice and is to appear in Guelph court on July 28.

Police officials have repeatedly denied requests for more information about the alleged assaults, including the date and location of the incidents, as well as whether or not Dolderman was on duty at the time.

On Feb. 6 the Advertiser discovered one ongoing sexual assault investigation involving the Wellington County OPP listed on the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) website.

Six additional sexual assault cases involving the detachment later appeared on the site.

The SIU confirmed it was investigating seven alleged sexual assaults involving one Wellington OPP officer that were reported by the OPP to the SIU between Jan. 24 and 29.

On Feb. 13, officials with the OPP and SIU told the Advertiser the OPP’s Professional Standards Bureau was taking over the investigations.

New charge for wife of Wellington County OPP officer facing

Postby Thomas » Sun Mar 19, 2023 4:15 pm

New charge for wife of Wellington County OPP officer facing sexual assault charges

The wife of a Wellington County OPP officer is facing another criminal charge.

In a March 8 news release, the Wellington County OPP announced that, on March 2, a document “was sent to three senior members of the Ontario Provincial Police,” adding that “an audio recording of confidential conversations had been illegally obtained in 2020 and a transcription of the recording was created.”

No further details of what exactly that document was, but the news release notes that following an investigation into its delivery, Brenda Dolderman, 55, was arrested and charged with disclosure of private communication on March 7.

No further information on this investigation is being released due to ongoing court proceedings, according to the release.

Dolderman was first charged in April 2020 with three counts of obstructing justice. Four months later, she would further be charged with intimidation of a justice system participant, attempt to obstruct justice and extortion.

Dolderman was sentenced last month to three months of house arrest, probation and community service after pleading guilty to obstructing justice.

She is the wife of Sgt. Mike Dolderman, who was also charged in April 2020 with five counts of sexual assault and five counts of breach of trust. Her charges were in connection with her husband, whose charges remain before the court.

Eight months later, a second Wellington County OPP officer, Sgt. Jamie Gillespie, was charged with intercepting private communications, obstructing justice, breach of trust, counselling an offence and obstructing a peace officer, with those charges connected to the investigation into fellow officer Dolderman.

Charge against wife of OPP officer stayed

Postby Thomas » Mon Aug 21, 2023 1:48 pm

Brenda Dolderman was charged with disclosing private communications by emailing senior OPP officials

As a longtime OPP officer awaits a court date next week in connection with sexual assault allegations, a charge levied against his wife in connection with emails sent to senior OPP officials has been stayed.

Brenda Dolderman was charged with disclosing private communications on March 8.

Police said a document was emailed to three senior members of the OPP on March 2.

An audio recording of confidential conversations was illegally obtained in 2020, and a transcribed version of the audio was created.

"Ms. Dolderman has always maintained that the sole purpose of her actions has been advocate for an independent investigation into the behaviour of several OPP officers involved in her husband’s case," said Alison Craig, Brenda's defence lawyer.

"The charges that were stayed related to her request of the OPP to ensure that a fulsome and independent investigation be done. Given that her intent was solely to pursue that investigation, I think the charge was appropriately stayed."

Brenda was charged a week after she was sentenced to three months of house arrest, a year probation and community service.

This comes after she pleaded guilty to obstructing justice in the investigation into sexual assault allegations against her husband, Sgt. Mike Dolderman.

A charge being stayed doesn't mean Brenda is out of the woods.

The charge can still be brought back to court by the Crown in the next year.

A staying of a charge just means court proceedings are put on hold.

Her husband was arrested in 2020, and was charged with five counts of sexual assault and five counts of breach of trust. His charges have not been proven in court, and there is a publication ban on proceedings.

He is due back in court next Tuesday.

Wellington County OPP officer facing sexual assault charges has died

A Wellington County OPP officer slated to go on trial next year for multiple counts of sexual assault has died.

According to an obituary posted online by the Graham Giddy Funeral Home, Mike Dolderman, 52, “passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 17, 2023, after courageously confronting an aggressive cancer.”

Dolderman, who at the time was a sergeant with Wellington County OPP, was charged in April 2020 with five counts of sexual assault and five counts of breach of trust and had been suspended with pay since that time.

Those allegations were not tested in court, with his trial set to have begun in 2024.
