SIU have charged Constable Scott Hearnden with one count of assault causing bodily harm after an incident in July 2014.
An Ontario Provincial Police officer has been charged with assault after an Oshawa man, 19, suffered a concussion after an incident on Highway 401, following a probe by the Special Investigations Unit.
On July 1, the man was travelling southbound on Highway 400 just before 12:30 a.m. and began to experience car troubles.
He stopped his car on the south shoulder of Highway 401, just east of Jane St.
Two OPP officers were dispatched to the scene for assistance and during their interaction, the man was injured and later diagnosed with a concussion, according to a statement from the SIU.
OPP Constable Scott Hearnden is facing one count of assault causing bodily harm.
Hearnden is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Feb. 10, 2016.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
