NORFOLK COUNTY, ONT.—Provincial police say one of their officers in Oxford County, Ont., has been charged with assault.

They say the alleged assault happened on Tuesday in Norfolk County, Ont., and a 24-year member of the force was arrested on Thursday.

Police did not detail the allegations against the officer.

They say the police officer, who is not named, is set to appear in court in Simcoe, Ont., in April.

Oxford OPP officer charged with off duty assault

A 24-year member of the Oxford County OPP detachment was charged and arrested with one count of assault contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code of Canada.

The OPP Professional Standards Bureau investigated the allegations of assault that took place Feb. 19 in Norfolk County for an alleged off duty assault.

The officer, whose name wasn’t released in the OPP West Region media release, is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe April 2.

OPP West Region media relations officer Derek Rogers said in an email to the Sentinel-Review they wouldn’t be releasing the name of the officer involved in the incident since it would lead to identifying the victim.

Oxford OPP say one of their own is facing charges.

While there are few details, the Professional Standards Bureau of the provincial police is investigating allegations of an off-duty assault involving a 24-year member of the Oxford OPP.

They say the incident happened on Tuesday in Norfolk County.

The officer was arrested Thursday and charged with one count of assault.

He is expected to appear in court in Simcoe on April 2.

The name of the officer has not been released.

OPP veteran faces assault charge

A veteran member of the Oxford OPP has been charged following an assault complaint this week in Norfolk County.

The 24-year member of the force was charged with assault Thursday in connection with an alleged incident that occurred on Tuesday.

Police usually release the name of people charged with serious crimes such as assault. In this instance however, the name has been withheld.

“We will not be releasing the name of the officer involved because it could lead to the identification of the victim,” Derek Rogers, a media relations officer with the OPP, said in an email Friday.

The accused will answer the charge in the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe April 2.

A 24-year Oxford OPP veteran has been charged with assault, provincial police say.

Charges were laid in connection with an alleged off-duty incident in Norfolk County Feb. 19 after an investigation by the OPP Professional Standards Bureau, OPP West Region said in a release.

The officer’s name has not been released to avoid identifying the alleged victim, OPP West Region media officer Derek Rogers said.

The accused is to appear in court in Simcoe on April 2.

OXFORD COUNTY - The OPP Professional Standards Bureau are investigating member of the Oxford County OPP detachment who has been with the force for 24 years.

The investigation stems from an alleged assault in Norfolk County on Tuesday while the officer was off duty. The officer was arrested and charged on Thursday with one count of Assault.

He will appear before the courts in Simcoe on April 2nd. The OPP did not provide the name of the officer in the release issued to the public.
