An OPP officer in Temiskaming has been charged with breach of trust and criminal harassment.

Michael Potter, 42, has been suspended from duty with pay, with a court appearance scheduled for Dec. 11 in Haileybury, the OPP said in a release.

The charges stem from “alleged incidents that occurred while the member was on duty,” the OPP said.

Potter has been a member of the OPP for 18 years, and is presently assigned to the Temiskaming detachment.

He was arrested and charged by the Professional Standards Bureau of the OPP following an investigation.

Temiskaming OPP officer stands trial on harassment charges

Postby Thomas » Fri May 21, 2021 7:20 am

Constable Michael Potter expected to take the stand in his own defence

A provincial police officer alleged to have harassed an Englehart woman while on duty was on trial this week.

Constable Michael Potter has served with the OPP's Temiskaming detachment for the past 20 years.

The last three years he has been suspended with pay, after being charged with criminal harassment and breach of trust.

This week, a court heard from a woman who claims Potter harassed her during the summer and fall of 2018.

There was also evidence presented from the GPS tracking software in Potter's police cruiser showing her visited her neighbourhood.

The defence says it plans to call Constable Potter as a witness when the trial resumes later this spring.
