An off-duty Ontario Provincial Police officer has been charged with pointing a firearm in a domestic dispute last week.

The OPP did not specify the detachment at which the officer serves, noting the identity of the accused is not being released in order to protect that of the victim.

The accused has been a member of the OPP for 24 years and is a member of the OPP’s Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, the OPP stated. And it noted he will answer to the charge in Brockville court.

The OPP said Friday its Professional Standards Bureau arrested and charged an off-duty OPP member “in relation to a domestic incident.”

Officers were called to a home on Oct. 26 to investigate the alleged incident.

Police charged the man with pointing a firearm. He was released from custody following a court appearance and is scheduled to appear in court in Brockville at a later date.

In keeping with the Police Services Act, the accused has been suspended with pay.

The OPP bureau was continuing its investigation.
