OPP officer charged with criminal offence

Ontario Provincial Police say a six-year member of the force has been charged with a criminal offence.

According to OPP, on Thursday an officer was arrested and charged following an investigation by the Professional Standards Bureau and Central Region Crime Unit.

Police say due to the domestic nature of the investigation, the accused member will not be identified and the specifics of the allegations will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim.

However, police say the accused is a provincial constable assigned to a central region detachment.

Police say the alleged incident occurred while the officer was off-duty.

According to police, the accused remains on active duty.

OPP say the investigation is ongoing and more details will be released as they become available.

The provincial police force says the accused is a 6-year veteran and will remain on active duty.

An OPP constable assigned to the Central Region detachment is facing charges.

The provincial police force says the incident happened on Thursday while the officer was off duty.

They say the Central Region Crime Unit are investigating the case and would only say that the officer is a member of the OPP the past six years and will remain on active duty.

They went on to say due to the domestic nature of the investigation, they will not be releasing any specifics of the case or releasing the officer's name in order to protect the identity of the victim and prevent revictimization.

(ORILLIA, ON) – On Thursday September 6, 2018, as a result of an ongoing investigation, an officer from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), who currently holds the rank of Provincial Constable and is assigned to a Central Region detachment was arrested and charged with a criminal offence that occurred while off duty.

Due to the domestic nature of the investigation that was conducted by detectives from the Central Region Crime Unit, under the direction of the Central Region Professional Standards Bureau, the OPP will not be releasing any information regarding the specifics of the allegations or the name of the officer involved in order to protect the identity of the victim and to prevent any form of revictimization.

OPP Constable charged with criminal offence

An officer with the Ontario Provincial Police remains on active duty after being charged with a criminal offence.

OPP Sergeant Peter Leon says the incident happened while the constable was off duty.

Leon would not reveal the constable’s gender, but says they were arrested on Thursday.

It’s not clear exactly what happened, but the incident was domestic in nature.

Investigators also won’t say where the officer is stationed, but say the 6-year veteran serves at a detachment in Central Region.
