A Nottawasaga OPP constable is facing a dangerous driving charge for his part in a three vehicle collision that occurred on Nov. 3rd in Alliston.
The incident took place that day at approximately 5:45 p.m involving the fully marked police cruiser, a compact car and a minivan on the 14th Line between the 10th Sideroad and Industrial Parkway.
Police reported the Nottawasaga OPP Officer was responding to a priority call, traveling eastbound on the 14th Line of New Tecumseth.
"The cruiser crested a hill, with its emergency lights activated when it turned out to avoid a collision with a Honda Accord which was stopped to make a left-hand turn into a private driveway," according to the press release issued this morning. "A westbound Dodge Caravan was also subsequently involved in the collision. The OPP called in their Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) to reconstruct the collision."
All three drivers were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, treated and released.
A dangerous driving conviction results in a criminal record and in Ontario, an automatic one-year licence suspension for a first offence. It also potentially carries up to five years in prison, "even if the driving does not lead to personal injury or property damage." Climbs to a maximum of 14 years if it causes serious injuries or death.
The six-year member of the OPP is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Newmarket in December.
