Veteran OPP officer charged with sexual assault

A veteran Ontario Provincial Police officer from Bancroft has been charged with sexual assault two days after an investigation began, the OPP confirmed Wednesday.

The 50-year-old officer, who has been suspended from duty with pay, has been with the police force for 29 years.

The officer’s name isn’t being released “to protect the identity” of the alleged victim, according to the OPP.

He is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 13.

BANCROFT, Ont. - A veteran provincial police officer is facing a sexual assault charge.

OPP spokeswoman Sgt. Kristine Rae says an investigation into a report of a sexual assault was launched by the force on Monday.

Rae says the 50-year-old officer was charged with sexual assault on Wednesday.

He was released and is to appear in court in Bancroft, Ont., on Jan. 13.

Rae says the officer — who has been a member of the OPP for 29 years — has been suspended from duty with pay.

The accused is not being named to protect the identity of the alleged victim.

Long serving police officer charged with sexual assault

OPP say one of their own has been charged with sexual assault.

On Monday November 24, Ontario Provincial Police launched an investigation into a report of a sexual assault.

As a result, today (Wednesday) a 50-year-old officer of the OPP has been charged with sexual assault.

He was released on a Promise to Appear and Officer-In-Charge Undertaking to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Bancroft, on January 13, 2015.

The officer has been a member of the OPP for 29 years.

He is presently suspended from duty with pay in accordance with the Police Services Act of Ontario.

Police say he is not being named to protect the identity of the victim.

Officer has been suspended with pay

A 29-year veteran of the Ontario Provincial Police has been charged with sexual assault, the force said Wednesday.

The 50-year-old officer, whose name has not been released to protect the identity of the victim, was charged following an investigation that began on Nov. 24 after an incident was reported to police.

The officer, a member of the east region detachment, has been suspended with pay, according to a police press release.

He has been released from police custody and is set to appear Bancroft, Ont., court on Jan. 13, 2015.
