OPP officer charged with assault

Postby Thomas » Thu May 15, 2014 5:29 am

An Ontario Provincial Police officer faces two counts of assault in relation to a domestic matter.

The officer was charged after investigation by the OPP’s Professional Standards Bureau.

The officer works for the OPP East Region, but SDG OPP spokesperson Pete Robertson declined to specify whether the officer is assigned to the SDG detachment.

Robertson said the geographical location of his workplace is being withheld under OPP policies, and to protect the identity of the victim, which is normal practice.

He suggested that further information should be accessed through the Professional Standards Bureau.

A phone message was left with bureau spokesperson Pierre Chamberlain.

OPP officer charged in domestic assault

Postby Thomas » Thu May 15, 2014 5:30 am

An OPP officer is facing two assault charges after what cops call a "domestic related incident."

Cops are being very tightlipped about the case, but said in a release that the officer is assigned to the OPP East Region and has been placed on administrative duties while the case plays out in court. The officer is charged with two counts of assault after the investigation by the OPP Professional Standards Bureau.

"The OPP will not be releasing any further information in regards to this investigation in order to protect the identity of the victim," the release concludes.

Yet another case when the police are unwilling to release the name of their own. So let me get this straight, "the geographical location of the officer's workplace is being withheld under the OPP policies". What kind of policy is that? Does this policy which we do not know about constitute a part of the Police Orders? Can we see that policy? If it is not part of the Police Orders but rather some internally made or even simply faked policy then who makes/fakes those internal policies? Answer: the OPP themselves of course. What are those policies based on? Answer: ??? Can we see that policy as well? It would appear that their internal policies supersede the law. In short, this story reminds me about the proclamation by the pigs who controlled the government in the Animal Farm by George Orwell, where at the end of the story they proclaimed the following: "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others. No wonder some refer to cops as pigs.
