MAITLAND – An Ontario Provincial Police officer, a suspect and two other civilians were injured in a crash involving a police cruiser, a fleeing suspect vehicle and a third vehicle near here on Saturday morning.

The three suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police reported Sunday, adding a Mississauga man has been arrested and charged.

The three-vehicle collision happened on County Road 15, south of Highway 401.

Shortly after 10 a.m., OPP officers were following a westbound vehicle on the 401 as part of an investigation. The suspect vehicle collided with a marked OPP cruiser and fled the scene, said police.

A short time later, the suspect vehicle collided with the same OPP cruiser and a passenger vehicle.

The two occupants of the passenger vehicle, the suspect and the officer were taken to hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

Nathaniel Larsen, 21, of Mississauga, was arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle; impaired driving; flight from a peace officer; resisting a peace officer; assaulting a peace officer with a weapon; possession of a Schedule I substance (drugs); disobeying a highway traffic sign; driving without a licence; using a plate not in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act; and driving without insurance.

The accused was held for a bail hearing pending a court appearance in Brockville on Sunday.

OPP East Region Technical Collision Investigators assisted with the investigation, which closed down County Road 15 for approximately seven hours.

No further details were available as of Sunday.
