When police officers are involved in incidents where someone has been seriously injured, dies or alleges sexual assault, the Special Investigations Unit has the statutory mandate to conduct independent investigations to determine whether a criminal offence took place.

SIU takes over investigation after suspect, OPP officer injured in Kemptville arrest

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating an incident in which a female suspect and a police officer were both injured following an arrest Nov. 14.

According to the OPP, an officer responded to a call at about 12:30 a.m. at a residence on River Road in Kemptville, about 60 kilometres south of Ottawa.

The officer attempted to place a woman at the residence under arrest for transport to the detachment.

Police say an “incident” that occurred leaving both parties with injuries. Police would not specify what the incident was or how serious the injuries were.

The SIU has a mandate to investigate any police incident death, injury or allegations of sexual assault.
