Firearms charge added to two counts of uttering threats

MIDLAND – Southern Georgian Bay OPP Const. Glen Hollett faces a firearms-related charge in addition to two counts of uttering threats, a Barrie court heard Monday.

Hollett was charged with threatening in connection with an off-duty incident in March. A firearms-related charge was brought to the attention of the court by his lawyer, Leo Kinahan, who requested the two charges be meshed so they could be heard together.

Hollett, a 10-year member of the provincial force, was not in court Monday for his first appearance. His next court date is June 26, when the Crown is expected to disclose its case to the defence.

The case is being prosecuted by an assistant Crown attorney from York Region, which is outside of Hollett’s regular jurisdiction.

The OPP released no details surrounding the threatening charges in March. The firearms charge was first revealed during Monday’s brief court appearance. No details were discussed in open court.
