Altercation between OPP officer and a youth

Police brutality is the wanton use of excessive force, usually physical, but potentially in the form of verbal attacks and psychological intimidation, by a police officer. Widespread police brutality exists in many countries, even those that prosecute it. It is one of several forms of police misconduct, which include: false arrest, intimidation, racial profiling, political repression, surveillance abuse, sexual abuse and police corruption.

A video is making the rounds on social media that shows an altercation between an OPP officer and a young person outside Harriett Todd Public School during the lockdown at Twin Lakes Secondary School on Tuesday in Orillia.

The excerpt shows an officer detaining a youth against a vehicle, then the young person turns around and attempts to leave.

The officer grabs at the individual and then appears to throw a punch.

The youth drops to the ground and several other officers hold him down as he is detained.

On Twitter, OPP Sgt. James Folz issued a video statement saying "While responding to a serious incident in Orillia today, an interaction between an officer and a young person led to an arrest. The OPP is aware of a video being shared on social media depicting a portion of the interaction but cannot comment on the circumstances. The OPP is investigating this incident."

The youth is not a student at the Simcoe County District School Board.

Video appears to show an officer punching a young person after he tries to escape custody:
