An Ontario Provincial Police officer is facing a traffic charge in connection with an incident back in August.

Police say the officer was driving a marked police cruiser on Muskoka Road North in Gravenhurst when the vehicle hit a child riding a bike.

The 10-year-old was taken to hospital, treated for minor injuries and released.

Police say the OPP cruiser was turning into a parking lot when it struck the child's bike.

The officer, who is a 10-year member of the OPP, is charged with not making a safe turn as per the Highway Traffic Act.

OPP officer charged following August collision involving 10-year-old cyclist in Gravenhurst

An OPP officer has been charged following an August collision that took place in Gravenhurst and involved a 10-year-old cyclist, police say.

The 10-year member of the OPP has been charged with not turning safely, according to officers.

On Aug. 8, a northbound OPP cruiser was turning into a commercial parking lot when a crash occurred between the vehicle and a young cyclist travelling south on the sidewalk, police say.

At the time, the 10-year-old boy was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

He was treated and subsequently released.

GRAVENHURST, Ont. — A provincial police officer has been charged in a crash involving a police cruiser and a cyclist this summer.

Ontario Provincial Police say the collision took place Aug. 8 in Gravenhurst, Ont.

They say a marked OPP cruiser was turning into a parking lot when it collided with a cyclist.

Investigators say a 10-year member of the force has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with making an unsafe turn.

BRACEBRIDGE - Members of the Bracebridge Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a collision between a marked OPP vehicle and a 10-year-old cyclist on Muskoka Road North in Gravenhurst on Aug. 8, 2019.

The northbound OPP vehicle was turning into a commercial parking lot when the collision occurred between the police cruiser and the cyclist.

As a result of the investigation, a 10-year member of the OPP has been charged with Turn - not in safety as per section 142(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
