OPP constable charged in motor-vehicle collision

An Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) constable has been charged after allegedly colliding a police cruiser into a passenger vehicle on Highway 17.

Police say at approximately 4:20 p.m. Monday, the North Bay detachment of the OPP investigated a two-vehicle collision on Highway 17 at Gormanville Road in North Bay.

Police say there were no injuries as a result of the collision, but Const. Mario Chitaroni, a member with nine years of service, has since been charged with making an unsafe movement from a parked position, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

OPP officer charged in Highway 17 collision

Provincial Police say a nine-year veteran with the service has been charged after a collision in North Bay.

In a statement released from OPP Tuesday, police said officers investigated a collision between a police cruiser and a passenger vehicle.

The collision occurred on Highway 17 at Gormanville Road at approximately 4:20 p.m Monday.

No injuries were reported in the accident, police said.

The officer was charged with start from parked position, not in safety contrary to section 142(2) of the Highway Traffic Act.
