A rookie OPP officer is facing a careless driving charge after a single-vehicle crash north of Goderich earlier this month – the second officer in the region to be ticketed under Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act in less than a week.

Huron County OPP say one of its officers was charged after her marked police cruiser left the roadway and hit a tree in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Township on Oct. 4.

The vehicle was travelling on Mid Huron Beach Road, north of Goderich, when the crash occurred. The officer was not injured and there were no other vehicles involved, police said.

A one-year member of the Huron County OPP was charged with careless driving.

Just last week, a one-year member of Lambton OPP was charged with making an unsafe turn after a two-vehicle crash Sept. 29 north of London.

Police say the OPP cruiser was driving north on Main Street in Exeter when it made a u-turn and collided with a pickup truck.

The pickup truck driver sustained minor injuries, police said.
