OPP officer charged after collision near Smiths Falls

An Ontario Provincial Police officer has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act after a collision on Wednesday that sent him to hospital.
The officer, with the Leeds detachment of the OPP and a 25-year-old member of the provincial service, was on duty when he was traveling north on County Road 29, south of Otterdale Crescent near Smiths Falls. When the officer observed a speeding south bound vehicle at approximately 5:35 p.m. he activated the emergency lights on his fully marked cruiser and pulled over to the shoulder.
As he started to make a U-turn to follow the speeding vehicle, a north bound SUV struck him.
The officer, the 17-year-old driver of the SUV and her passenger all sustained minor injuries. The driver and her passenger were taken to hospital as a precaution.
Const. Vince Tremblay, 57, was charged with turn not in safety.
