Cruiser crash nets careless charge for OPP officer

An Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer has been charged with careless driving after just 11 months on the job.

Norfolk County OPP report the officer failed to stop at a dead-end while responding to a priority call on Windham Road 7 at about 8 p.m. on Dec. 3.

The Chevrolet Tahoe cruiser ran off the road, struck a tree, and came to rest against a dirt berm. The cruiser was extensively damaged but the officer was unhurt.

Const. Kyle Hamilton was charged with careless driving.

The charge hasn’t been proven in court.

Police Officer Runs Dead End And Hits Tree - Careless Driving Charge

Members of the Norfolk County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have issued one of their own following a motor vehicle collision on December 3, 2014.

Investigation by OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators revealed that the officer was responding to a priority call on Windham Road 7 at 8:00 p.m. when he failed to stop at the dead-end road. The Chevrolet Tahoe police cruiser ran off the roadway where it struck a tree and ended up coming to rest against a dirt berm.

Though the cruiser sustained extensive damage, the officer was uninjured.

OPP has charged Provincial Constable Kyle HAMILTON with Carless Driving contrary to Section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act. The member has served with the OPP for eleven months.

An OPP constable faces a charge of careless driving after crashing his cruiser in Norfolk County.

According to the OPP, Const. Kyle Hamilton was responding to a call on Windham Road 7, north of Delhi, earlier this month when he failed to stop at a dead end.

His cruiser then left the roadway, hit a tree and came to rest against a dirt berm, receiving what OPP termed “extensive damage.”

Hamilton, who has been with the OPP for less than one year, was not hurt.

A Norfolk County OPP officer has been charged with careless driving after his police cruiser went off the road and hit a tree while the officer was responding to a call on the night of Dec. 3.

According to Sgt. David Rektor from OPP West Region headquarters, the officer was driving on Windham Road 7 around 8 p.m. and failed to stop at the dead-end road. His Chevrolet Tahoe cruiser ran off the road, struck a tree and ended up coming to rest against a dirt berm.

The officer, a constable who has been with the force for 11 months, was uninjured in the collision. His cruiser sustained what Rektor called "extensive damage."
