OPP Officer Loses Licence

26 year old rookie OPP officer charged with racing after a crash in Mount Forest.

(Mount Forest) - A rookie Wellington OPP officer has been charged with racing.

The Western Region OPP Traffic Unit laid the charge after investigating a crash in Mount Forest on Friday morning.

Police say the officer was operating a fully marked cruiser when he failed to negotiate a turn onto Industrial Drive and drove into a wooded area.

The officer was not hurt, but the cruiser sustained significant damage.

26 year old Ellision Catuira is charged with racing.

He has been with Wellington OPP for nine months and holds the rank of Probationary Constable.

Catuira is now assigned to administrative duties before he appears in court on November 21st.

His licence has also been suspended for seven days.

Officer Charged with Racing

October 6, 2012: Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) West Region Traffic Unit have charged a member of the Wellington County OPP with Racing, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

OPP Technical Collision Investigators were called in to investigate a collision the officer was involved in while responding to a call in Mt. Forest this morning shortly after 1:00 a.m. The officer was operating a fully marked police cruiser when he failed to negotiate a turn onto Industrial Drive, ran off the roadway and drove into a wooded area. The member was uninjured during the collision; however the cruiser sustained significant damage.

OPP has charged 26-year-old Ellision CATUIRA with Racing. He has been with the Wellington County OPP for 9 months and holds the rank of Probationary Constable. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Offences Court on November 21, 2012 to answer to the charge. The member's driver's licence has been suspended for 7 days and the cruiser impounded.

The member has been assigned to administrative duties.
