Another hike in OPP cost for Tyendinaga

Obscenely high and unsustainable policing costs. OPP bills are destroying communities its officers are supposed to protect. Apparent self-interest is cloaked in the guise of public safety needs. Where is the political outrage while OPP costs continue to climb? Who is going to bring policing costs in this province under control?

Another hike in OPP cost for Tyendinaga

The cost for policing is going up in Tyendinaga Township, again!

At Monday nights council meeting, members discovered they will see more than a 14 percent jump in the cost of services.

Clerk Steve Mercer says the cost for 2015 was $396,397, while next year will hit well over $453,560.

This is not the first jump either.

In just 2013, it was $304,700 for policing, provided by the Napanee detachment.

The phase in has seen a jump of $150,000, that is a 50 percent hike in just three years.

Mercer says if no cuts are made to the bottom line, that will mean another jump on 2.5 percent on the average tax payer.

There is expected to be one more price adjustment on the phase in by the OPP.

The municipality is supporting a costing that will be undertaken by Hastings County.
