SIU investigating man's 12-meter fall from bridge in Kitchener
Man, 31, in hospital with serious injuries
The province's special investigations unit (SIU) is looking into the circumstances that led up to a 31-year-old man falling from a bridge in Kitchener Tuesday evening.
The SIU says Ontario Provincial Police were called to Highway 8 near the Fairway Road exit for a man running on the road. Officers were dispatched to the area and located the man.
"A brief struggle ensued before the man managed to flee on foot," the SIU says in a release. "Shortly after, the man fell from a bridge to the ground approximately 12 metres below." The man was airlifted to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The SIU has assigned three investigators and two forensic investigators to the case. The SIU investigates when there has been allegations of police involvement in a person's death, serious injury or sexual assault.
Anyone with information on the case, including dashcam footage or photos and video, is asked to call 1-800-787-8529.
